It has been rather a long time since the last news update. This is because it has been rather a hectic time recently. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have a little bit of time to commit to feature updates and you know posting more content. Do you see what I did there? It was pretty sneaky making the name of our new gallery software a play on words *nods vigorously*. Right details time. The gallery is written in HTML5 and javascript. Nekogal will contain neko manga/hentai so that you don't have to deal with zips of files. Currently just has the two nekomimichan releases are hosted. Nekogal is quite resource hungry both in CPU time and bandwidth as it downloads the full manga in the background. If there are any major bugs report them to me. I'm not even bothering to try supporting IE so if you use it you are on your own.

That is right it is nearly that glorious time of year when everyone cosplays for an evening and you can get away with dressing up as a nekogirl/boy without getting odd looks! This is Nekomimichan's first Halloween so it is time to start an annual tradition, a halloween photo contest! Check /b/ for the details.

The new tagging system isn't getting as much use as it could, which is a little bit of a pity because I think is it rather nifty. Anywho you will now notice that on the boards if you hover over the tag link any tags already associated with the image will appear in the tooltip. The tag page now offers links that will show you all other images with a specific tag. Also the search page now links into the tag page for the image not directly to the image. This completes the flow so that you can quickly navigate around the tags finding related images. Enjoy.

Right well the image tagger has been all well and good with just shy of 10,000 tags collected. So I have decided to push forward and intergrate it in to the board system. You can now tag any file on any board and search for files using the quicklink on the menu bar. This hopefully brings us some of the function of a 'booru' and I will work to impliment a full merge of the two style of board later this month.

Well there we go I think the new CSS transition is completed. This stemmed from me being to preoccupied to write real code and a realization that 4chan looked better than nekomimichan. We couldn't be having that now could we?! I am personally a fan of frames so they have been maintained and honestly if you are using a browser that doesn't support them you fail to much to deserve any neko goodness. The new layout makes conversations look well more conversational. Replies are contained inside their parent threads and feature a speech-bubble look. Also as I'm sure you have noticed the colour scheme has been lightened and made lower impact. Bright colours when they aren't needed ruin aesthetics. On that note links are now a forest green which is kitten's favourite colour. If these prove to be to bright they might switch to a greyblue in the near future which is kitten's eye colour :P. As far as I know there is only one bug. Hope you all enjoy the new look.

I have implimented a new CSS style on nekomimichan. Hopefully it is a little less 1995 and a little less visually intrusive. Hopefully I have not intoduced any horrid errors point them out in /b/ if you spot one.

Just thought I would note that we have in the 5 short months of nekomimichan's existance served over a quarter of a million pages and 2.5million indivival files. This makes us aproximately the 2.5millionth most popular site on the whole wide internet. Its been getting a little slow around here. Which is quite odd considering the current downtime 7chan is experiencing. Anyway hopefully everyone will remember to contribute not just browse as that is what keeps us all going. Get out there start some threads even better start some actual discussions!

Time to update the news again. I am yet to finish DumpStar due to the untimely failure of the memory in my test server. This will be replaced this week and hopefully it will be up and running on the production site as soon as full testing is finished. Also weekly backups are being maintained to avoid the kind of data loss that has sadly become a reality on most chans.

We are now listed on the Overchan (shii.org/2ch/) which is a boon to the number of anon posters but has come with a slight overhead of spam. Boards will be cleaned to stay on topic so you don't have to compete with trash.

The image tagger is proving to be popular with thousands of tags now in the database. Nekomimichan will attempt to be not just the home of nekomimi but also a feature sandbox for enhancing the user experience of chan boards

The tagger seems to be preforming quite well there are tags for 300 images of our 4000 already. Keep it up guys there are some real gems in there. Also according to our statistics there have been over 50,000 hits on the site since launch, pretty impressive.

Another common place problem with *chan boards is mysterious downtime during which the users have no idea what is wrong or if the board will return. To this end Nekomimichan has a twitter account Nekomimichan on Twitter. This will be used in cases of downtime and also announce major updates so make sure to follow our Twitters. (you may note that there is already a post about downtime, which we experienced for 15 minutes earlier today during a SQL server transition).

Ok guys one of our new features is up! The image tagger! through this you can attach tags to images and in return get a copy of that image for yourself. Sound like a good deal? I sure think it is, there is 1GB(8589934592bits) of images to tag so get going!
Note good tags are:
- photo
- collar
- lesbians
- blonde
- bed
- etc

Bad tags are:
- hawt1!1
- neko (because that is fairly obvious)
- a girl with blue eyes and blonde hair on a bed

Tags are separated by commas you can suggest as many tags as you like for an image.
