Additionally, you may have better effects mixing it with some form of alcohol. Probably a gin or rum.

Just thinking about this and a yoghurt maker might actually work really well for this. It is basically what you described but used normally to provide a hot environment for yoghurt bacteria to grow by filling the outer vessel with hot water. Fill it with ice and you would have a nice insulated ice cream maker.
